OWNER & HEAD TRAINER

JAKE MASTERS

Like any true cowboy, Jake’s first words were “Whoa Mare”. Horses have been part of his world for as long as anyone can remember. He grew up riding along on farm calls with his dad, a large-animal veterinarian. As soon as he could lead a pony, he was “training” his own while watching his parents start 2-year-olds in the evenings and soaking up everything he could.

After high school, Jake headed west and completed Ken McNabb’s Apprentice Level Certification. He returned home with a deeper appreciation for what makes a good horse: one with try, softness, and a willing mind. His time out west challenged him, humbled him, and showed him the value of patience and miles outside the arena. Now, his training approach focuses on building a quiet, willing partner, then guiding new owners so the horse and rider can grow together with confidence.

Jake later earned degrees in Agricultural Business and Equine Science and an Associate’s in Biochemical Science (Pre-Vet) from The Ohio State University, but most of what he knows has come from long days in the saddle, countless horses under his hands, and a lifetime of learning from the horse itself.

When he’s not riding, you’ll find him enjoying life with his wife, Samantha, and their two children, Hadley and McCoy.

samantha masters

Sami didn’t grow up with horses, but she married into the lifestyle young. Jake and Sami started dating at 15, and one of their first dates involved getting bucked off in the hayfield (a memorable welcome to the horse world). Since then, she has learned right alongside Jake, developing a genuine appreciation for what makes a good-minded, safe horse, especially now as a mom, watching her own kids swing a leg over.

With a professional background in marketing and graphic design, Sami helps bring the Masters Equine brand to life while balancing life as a stay-at-home mom. She works behind the scenes in nearly every part of the business, from photography, videography, website and social media management, administrative organization, and daily barn tasks.

More than anything, she loves the life horses have helped build for their family. Some of her favorite memories have been made during slow weekends camping with the horses and barn days with kids in tow. In the rare moments she’s not chasing wild kids, you’ll find her on her personal horse, Durango, dreaming up a new (very necessary, of course) house project to pitch to Jake, or sipping coffee at one of her favorite local shops.
